Our first lecture for TV Studio Production involved setting the brief; we have to create a 15-25 minute pilot for Channel 4 at lunch time. This pilot has to be different from everything else already out there at lunch time and fit with Channel 4's quirky nature.
For the brief we were put into groups, my group consisted of 5 others from my course, people I hadn't worked with before and so I was looking forward to working with different people. We also had to pick production roles for the project.
Roles to choose from where:
- Director
- Producer
- Floor Manager
- Set Designer
- Presenter
The producer is the team leader and performs a variety of management and coordination roles in bringing together the many elements of a production. The producer works closely with the presenter in producing a script for the production. They also generally encourage the team and over see everything that goes on. On the day of rehearsal and the recording, the producer is in charge of coordinating the guests, overseeing the content and also keeping an eye on the presenter. On the day this person will use a camera.
Originally I wanted to be the Floor Manager, it seemed a role that I would suit well, but another team member asked for that role first. However i'm looking forward to challenging myself with something different and getting to grips with being the producer and what the role involves,, hopefully it's something i'm well suited too!
